Prologue

RPG stands for role-playing game, and is a game where players take on the role of a character in a fictional world. RPGs can be played in a variety of ways, including: 

Tabletop role-playing game (TRPG): Players discuss their characters’ actions and the game’s false environment is decided by a game master. 

Live action role-playing (LARP): Players physically act out their characters’ actions in a real environment.

Video game: Players control their characters’ actions in a static environment.

RPGs often include: 
A storyline and central quest 
Side quests that can help players improve their character’s abilities 
Non-player characters (NPCs) 
Downloadable content (DLC) 
Character development, which can be recorded as statistics
