Rideshare permits for Dallas and airports

City of Dallas and DFW Airport Permit Process

Beginning May 1, 2015, the City of Dallas requires all Uber and Lyft rideshare drivers to have (2) two permits, a driver permit and vehicle permit. One for the driver and one for each car used for rideshare. Also, if you intend to pickup at DFW Airport, you will need a 3rd DFW Airport specific permit. In order to legally drive in Dallas and pickup at DFW and Love Field Airports, you must have these permits or risk getting ticketed.

You must have (3) three permits:

1) Driver’s Permit – City of Dallas (cost $53)
2) Vehicle Permit – City of Dallas (inspection cost $40-50 + decal fee $3)
3) Vehicle Permit – DFW Airport (free)

HOW TO GET A DRIVER’S PERMIT

  1. Visit the City of Dallas Transportation for Hire Portal here https://dallascitytx.portal.fasttrackgov.com/Common/ApplicationLinks.aspx
  2. Click “Apply for or renew a Driver’s Permit” on the right side.
  3. “Register Now” on the right side and setup your account.
  4. Verify your email by clicking the link sent to you.
  5. Under “Menu” at the top left, click “Apply for or renew a Driver’s Permit”
  6. “Start a New Application” and fill out all required info with red *
  7. Under question #5 select “Rideshare Vehicle”
  8. Select “Yes” for question #6 and have the City of Dallas conduct their background check.
  9. Click “Review Fees” at the bottom, confirm the $53 total, and select “Submit and Pay Now”
  10. Follow the prompts to PAY for the permit and print your receipt. Snap a screen shot in case you need to prove you paid.
  11. The process takes a couple days to a couple weeks time. Check the status by clicking “Apply for or renew a Driver’s Permit” and viewing the pending application.
  12. Once the status is “PENDING BADGE ISSUE”, the permit is ready to be picked up at the Transportation Regulation Office.

HOW TO GET THE VEHICLE PERMIT (This is a CITY REQUIRED INSPECTION separate from your state inspection.)

  1. You must have a driver’s permit before you can apply for a vehicle permit.
  2. Visit the City of Dallas Transportation for Hire Portal here https://dallascitytx.portal.fasttrackgov.com/Common/ApplicationLinks.aspx
  3. Click “Register or Renew Vehicle Decal (Permit)” on the bottom left.
  4. “Start a New Application” and select “New Motorized Vehicle Registration”
  5. Fill out all required info and “Submit”.
  6. At least 24 hours later, take your vehicle for inspection at one of the city approved inspection stations here. http://dallascityhall.com/departments/codecompliance/Pages/Vehicle-Inspection.aspx
  7. For LYFT-ONLY drivers, wait one day and take your car registration receipt, inspection paperwork and drivers license to the Transportation Regulation Office to have your vehicle decal issued. Pay $3 for the decal. The vehicle decal goes on the bottom corner passenger side of the front windshield.
  8. For UBER drivers, take your inspection paperwork and driver’s permit to one of the Uber Dallas offices below. They will issue you a vehicle permit and deduct it from your pay.

  1. You MUST HAVE BOTH the city of Dallas driver’s and vehicle permits before you apply for the DFW airport permit.
  2. Bring the car you wish to apply for, with city of Dallas vehicle permit affixed to the windshield, and your driver’s permit to the DFW Ground Transportation Office below. Your vehicle permit must be directly affixed to the windshield, not on any removable object.
  3. Fill out the application.
  4. The office personnel will affix the decal to your windshield in-person.

The problem is the measurement of how salaries are compared. In some cases it’s an apples to cakes type of thing (she is a clerk with 8.5 yrs experience who had six months off to bear a child vs. he has 8.5 yrs experience with no breaks and has an MBA from a prestigious university – rather obviously a fruit/cake comparison) and in others they’re at least in the same sort of category both being fruit.

When they are at least both fruit so to speak, there are statistics used that don’t match. Two clerks, one male one female, have the same essential job in the same company, in the same division etc. He has “been there” for 14 years while she has “been there” for 16 years and has a lower salary. Putting aside disciplinary causes, what could cause the disparity? It’s the definition of “been there”.

He has been there (really) for 14 years other than vacations, he is always there and always will be (he started two years behind her). She has “been there” (virtually) for 16 years. We need to examine that claim rationally. While she started with the company 16 years ago, she has only literally been there for 14 years. “Oh my,” you say, “but that is still less pay for the same expended hours is it not?”

Precisely – it is NOT the same expended hours. Examine this carefully, remembering what Simple Interest and Compound Interest mean, to see if this claim holds water:
They both started in 1985 and had similar promotional opportunity. Except she missed one in 1987 when she took six months family leave for her first baby. The male made the 3.5% increase, she did not. Follow this pattern – another leave, another missed 4% and another leave, this one much longer due to complications and the decision to have a procedure resulting in missing 2.5% increase.

During that time, the male worked and earned those raises and he went to school at night for accounting. He earned an Associates degree and got a raise for earning a degree, increasing his value to the company. Another 3%.

If we compound the interest… We see that she had a child and fell behind 3.5% and again, losing 4% (also compounding the 3.5%) then he got an extra raise for earning a degree of 3% (also compounding the compounded 3.5% and the 4%). As you can see, at the end of this series, he has passed her due to her absences. Then the 2.5% results in compounding the previous and he’s ahead. No bias here.

So… where does the “women make only xx% then men”? It’s utter bullshit. A cooked number that accounts for NOTHING; no sickness; no missing three years, no accounting for many men being in the workforce since the dawn of time and a large percentage of women joining around 1952-64. WWII – 1942 -1948 (including wrap up). Korean war (a proxy war with the Red Chinese 1950-1953 (armistice). Krushchev replaced Stalin 1956. And Viet Nam 1956-75.

During this time there was a sudden recessionary effect on the overall income in the U.S. There were far more workers than jobs. The economy took the hit fairly well, the war machine was still in full swing and we could absorb many new workers by skipping alot of raises and having no increase in the starting wages. From 1942 to 1978 the “Military-Industrial Complex” was the driving force that put the U.U. on top of the world with production, living conditions (remember that at this time there were people dying in rice paddies and jungles all over the world from simple shit like mosquitoes, communist oppression and general lack of any shit to do for money or food).

People lived in caves for God sake.

Women entered the workforce during a time that we didn’t know what their value would be; during a time when we weren’t enlightened; a time when black segregation was in full force; a time when the chauvinistic men were holding every no-white, non-male back. We’ve grown from that time, but the effects still linger. Boomers are starting to retire. Women already were underpaid. All non-white dudes were underpaid.

The bullshit statistic comes from including retirement incomes and excluding leaves of absence. The difference? Still hovers around 20%. As female boomers retire and the people who fought WWII pass away, the difference will even out. Especially if we stop comparing fruit/cakes.

Has the dictionary definition of treason been modified?

A recent Common Core school assignment that asked students to remove and replace two of the first ten amendments of the Constitution has me puzzled.

I wonder that the dictionary definition of treason may have been modified or ignored:

My basis for my conclusion of treason:

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

There are the words – allegiance… to the Republic (note the capitalization)… indivisible (cannot be broken by unilateral action such as secession also see: Civil War)…

Simply put: one shouldn’t be teaching treason to kids.
